Brrr! It’s cold outside – and I can’t think of any better way to walk to work in the snow than in a pair of classic work boots. Although it’s a trend that never really goes away, they are currently in the upper zone of their fashion curve. In October Elle Magazine proclaimed “Timberlands are the new Birkenstocks!” (and controversially omitted the huge influence that hip hop has played in the rise of the Timberland boot). Vogue featured Timberlands in September; Grazia in November; InStyle (and Vogue again) in December. But there’s plenty more to the work boots trend than Timberlands. I really like Online Avenue’s “Elizabeth” boots (see “buy today” below) for a quirky take on the work boot. I’m also fortunate enough to (ahem) “need” a pair of work boots for my job, and my tried and tested choice is the Dr. Marten women’s industrial boot. I wear them with skinny jeans so that I can whip off my delightful hi vis trousers (I actually love these too – I know, a bit weird – but hey! check out the name of my blog) and still feel a) like a woman, and b) stylish. In fact, so warm, comfy and stylish are these boots that I can walk for miles over peat bogs, stand for lengthy periods on construction sites, and still head straight to the pub for dinner. Plus the weight of the steel toe and midsole means extra leg slimming benefits. I love my boots! Maybe I should clean them though…
