Modern Eclectic Life

Welcome to Eclectic Feel! It’s a celebration of the modern eclectic lifestyle – the simple pleasures of being different, of seeking beauty in the everyday and the unusual…of being who you want to be. My inspiration for this blog came when I Googled the phrase “modern eclectic” and found…not much, other than some brilliant articles on eclectic décor; for example houzz.co.uk has the following to say:

“Eclectic style is the great equalizer. It reshuffles the rule book, mixing and matching old and new, East and West, luxe and humble, showy and quiet. It invites you to fill a space with objects you love and unique finds that strike your fancy. Simply put, it’s you, curated”.

And I confess – perhaps my definition of Modern Eclectic has a lot to do with my inability to pass a junkshop without falling in love with a painting “with a face only a mother could love”. I am drawn to the unusual like a magpie to St. James’ Park. I love roadtrips, looking for beauty and the weird in randomness out of the car window. My iTunes collection ranges from Beyoncé to Bruce Springsteen to Bon Iver, stopping in between to sample Glen Campbell and Glenn MedeirosDepending on my mood my favourite colour is pink, grey, orange, green. One of my pet peeves is when one person says to another “Oh but surely you don’t like that”? Yes! I like it all! One of each, please!

And the modern? Well that was borne from a more recent love of mindfulness and learning to be clutter-free during many an insomniacal night listening to headspace and obsessively reading zenhabits.

insomnia: An Urban Dictionary definition:

The state of sleep loss. No matter how much you desire dreamland, it refuses you entry. You stand at the gates, whining, crying, but stuck in the world of buzzing activity.
Person A: “I had a lovely night sleep. How ’bout you?”
Person B: “I have insomnia. Go f*** yourself.”

Early days yet on the roadtrip to clutter-free zen-ness but so far, so mindful. So how can an eclectic lifestyle possibly go hand-in-hand with leading a clutter-free existence? Let’s find out…
