Simple Ikebana display

I’ve been following Sansei Life for a few months now and I often visit to explore her blog and chill out for a few minutes with her beautifully simple and peaceful posts. In her own words: “Sansei Life! A blog exploring and learning about the Asian community in Denver. When I was much younger I tried a new Japanese restaurant in Arvada called Namiko’s for a sushi snack. It was very good. I got into a conversation with Yuri the owner and she ended up offering me a part time job on weekends. I spent most of the first evening running to Yuri asking her what the various dishes were and what was in them and what they tasted like. In exasperation Yuri asked me if I was Japanese! She could not understand how a Japanese did not know simple restaurant fare. That is when I really understood that I was a Sansei out of touch with my culture. I am ready to experience and learn about today’s Asian culture”.

Ikebana (生け花, “living flowers”) is the Japanese art of flower arrangement, More than simply putting flowers in a container, ikebana is a disciplined art form in which nature and humanity are brought together. Ikebana often emphasizes other areas of the plant, such as its stems and leaves, and draws emphasis toward shape, line, form. Another aspect present in ikebana is its employment of minimalism. That is, an arrangement may consist of only a minimal number of blooms interspersed among stalks and leaves. The spiritual aspect of ikebana is considered very important to its practitioners. Silence is a must during practices of ikebana. It is a time to appreciate things in nature that people often overlook because of their busy lives (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikebana).

Ikebana, the art of observing nature.

Here is an ikebana display from my heart.

Simple ivy allowed to grow on its own path.  At one with nature, it is nature.

Reaching out on its own journey.

Out of time

Time, time, time, see what’s become of me, while I looked around for my possibilities…

And it’s time, time, time that you learned…

I need a little time to think things over…

I haven’t looked at my blog for a week and a half. I love looking at my blog, so there is only one reason for this – time. In the past two weeks I’ve working away in the flat fens of East Anglia and in the shadow of the mountainous Lake District. Rushing from east coast to west coast, visiting my parents, taming wild rescue ponies and working on social media for the awesome PACT Animal Sanctuary, sorting out my parent’s camper van (packed to the brim with charity stuff), managing projects, going to a Foo Fighters gig, running the Newcastle branch of the Women’s Equality Party, going to my niece’s hen do dressed as Samantha from SATC, doing great crested newt surveys in the evenings and environmental education for schoolchildren in the daytime. Oh, and as our house purchase fell through a couple of weeks ago at the last minute, whenever I’m home I’ve been viewing houses every evening… and on Saturday, literally on the way to a friend’s wedding we bought a house! The Lust for Lush: Bickering about Bath Bombs

A lush post on Lush for you by Geez Kyra Louise – it’s as cute and fizzing with enthusiasm as a bath bomb!

Geez Kyra Louise!

Whether it be through Instagram, beauty blogs or just in your circle of friends- LUSH is taking over! Here’s your inside source to the good, the bad and the ugly (not really that dramatic it’s just soap) of your favorite, infamous Lush products!

My personal Lush collection My personal Lush collection

Before Bomb Thoughts: My opinions regarding the handmade cosmetics shop had wavered back and forth. In the past I had always felt that the strong scents were a little overbearing and not worth the hype. I assumed that the quality of the products was only raved about so much because they looked cute in Instagram photos (which is true-admittedly I posted my own). My thoughts subsequent to experiencing the infamous bath bomb changed immensely however, as I saw my original thoughts were far from the truth!

The Weird World of ASMR

In my endless quest to end my insomnia (give my brain even the slightest excuse and it will wake me up; it’s beyond annoying), a friend recently told me about ASMR. Neither of us had ever heard of it, and it’s likely you haven’t either. Over the next couple of days we each watched a couple of ASMR videos and reported back via text – about how weird it was, yet we were slightly embarrassed to admit that it did have an affect on us both. For me, if I watch it at night it immediately relaxes me and I would struggle to watch a 20 minute video without falling asleep – result! Continue reading The Weird World of ASMR

3 Emergency Online Stress-busters

So I’m sitting at home, waiting for a potentially very difficult call…I should add, I’m recovering from an operation at the moment and really only capable of doing a small amount each day. The clock ticks by (the call is now 33 mins late and counting) and I find myself struggling to suppress those chronic anxiety demons, that feeling in the pit of your stomach…heart pounding…chewing my lip…and above all catastrophizing the absolute worst-case outcome of the phone call.
